2025 Outlook:
Hampden Academy enters as the Class A favorite after winning the North Regional and finishing 3rd at states. Asher Valentine will be one of the top individual contenders in the state and gives them a legitimate frontrunner. The Broncos have incredible depth with seven runners returning, including Gunnar Weil who provides excellent support. Their combination of a potential individual champion and outstanding team depth makes them the team to beat in Class A.

2025 Outlook:
The Bulldogs are hungry to win the Class A state title after finishing 2nd by just one point in 2024. Owen Blades will be in the hunt for a top 5 finish amongst individuals and Liam Alexander is coming off a breakout track season. What makes Portland dangerous is their remarkable young talent, with Everret Smith, Reid Hughes, and Sam Harrod-Kim all running well as freshmen. Their depth is impressive and they have the perfect blend of veteran leadership and emerging young stars to take another state championship.

2025 Outlook:
Bangor has the potential to make a significant jump up the standings this year. The Rams return 4 athletes that broke 17:30 last year. If they can find one more runner that can hang with that group, they could challenge the top teams in northern Maine and threaten to win the whole thing.

Camden Hills brings back one of the most balanced teams in the state. Top returner Will Meyer has decided to focus on tennis this fall, but Sam Tooley more than capable of leading the team. This is a team built for consistency and their pack-running approach could propel them to a top finish in Class A.

The defending Class B champions are looking to repeat behind Alex Gilbert, who will be the favorite for the individual state championship. Gilbert's low stick gives Freeport an advantage, but they have solid depth behind him, too. Guzman and Tussing provide solid support, and they will need some improvement from their supporting cast to capture another Class B title.

2025 Outlook:
Caribou brings back exceptional balance that makes them Freeport's primary challenger for the Class B title. The Vikings' strength lies in their incredible pack running, with Tewolde Stewart, Scott Stubbs, and Seth Dubay forming one of the tightest top-three combinations in the state. Their northern Maine toughness and team-first mentality have made them consistent contenders. While they may not have Freeport's individual star power, their balanced attack could prove to be the difference in a close team race.

The defending Class A champions face an interesting challenge as they look to repeat. Atticus Merriam will be one of the top individual contenders in the state and he gives them elite front-running capability. However, they lost a number of talented athletes from last year’s squad which will be difficult to replace. The Red Storm's championship experience and Merriam's individual brilliance provide a strong foundation, but they'll need significant improvement from their depth to successfully defend their title.

With only three notable returners, Deering faces the challenge of finding consistent contributors to round out their scoring five. If they can identify and develop a couple more reliable runners, this could be a team that moves up significantly in the Class A standings.

The Wildcats have promising young talent in sophomores Emerson Geranis and Quin Dijkstra. This team just might be a darkhorse for the class B state title.

South Portland has consistently been one of the more solid programs in the SMAA, and they return a nice group of contributors from their 6th place state finish. Michael Lawlor will be the leader of this group and has the experience to guide the Red Riots through the competitive SMAA schedule. They have probably taken a step back compared to last year, but if things come together, a top 10 showing could be within reach.

They probably aren’t in the mix to win this year, but another top 5 finish could be in the cards.
