Girls Team Rankings

Hampden Academy's depth was what allowed them to finish as the top Maine team last weekend.  Five girls under 20:40 has them looking like the Class A favorite and the top team in the state.  Falmouth, Freeport, and Portland all are closer than is appears though, all were missing potential scorers at FOC.  The gap between 6-10 here is razor thin, and anyone could come out on top at the end of the year. Class C is still a big question mark.

Freeport surges to #1 after a dominant win at the Southern Maine Classic that saw them have the runner up in the Freshman-Sophomore race and 3 of the top 6 in the Junior-Senior race.  Cape Elizabeth, too, surprised at SMC with a great pack in the Fresh-Soph race.  Presque Isle continues to climb and could be even higher: mainexcindex.com thinks that they are Class B title contender. George Stevens enters the Class C title conversation after a win over Orono at the Bucksport Invite.

MDI has fallen to ninth for now as it appears that may have lost key contributors from last season.  The bottom half of the rankings remain steady as those teams all performed as expected this week.

Week 1 Rankings (Posted 9/9/26)

Our preseason top 6 have all confirmed their elite rankings through the first couple of weeks of the season.  MDI looks solid but have been without two of the top runners so far this year.  Hampden Academy added multiple impact freshmen and  looks to be a force in Class A. Likewise, Presque Isle and Yarmouth have had an influx of youth that has put them in a great position in Class B.  

The big story so far is the Massabesic Mustangs, who despite having finished 10th in the Class A South in 2025, look like a title contender this year.   Orono is also a bit of a surprise. The defending Class C champs projected to take a step back this year with only two returners but they have reloaded and now look like a potential favorite to defend the title.
