2026 Outlook:
Mt. Desert Island is back and hungry after finishing as runners-up in the Class B state championship. They enter this season as the top-ranked girls team in the state and has the depth to back it up. With 4 runners in the preseason top 25, they should be a favorite in Class B and a contender for the top overall team in Maine. If the team can run cohesively throughout the season and avoid injury, they have every chance to claim the championship that narrowly escaped them last year. Next year, with the whole team back again, they could be a historically great team.

2026 Outlook:
Falmouth looks like the team to beat in Class A. Falmouth finished as the runner-up in Class A last year and returns with a strong core led by strong frontrunning. Moon is a legitimate individual state championship contender and has established herself among the elite in Maine. The Navigators have excellent depth with Elle Foley and the supporting cast providing stability throughout the lineup. With a balanced attack and an experienced group, Falmouth should be in the mix for another run at the title.

2026 Outlook:
Thornton Academy returns a strong front group from a team that finished 4th in Class A last fall. Mackenzie Shields leads the Trojans after running 19:42, while Julia Beaudette and Londyn Hemenway give them two more runners towards the front. A big boon for this team is the transfer of Annalise Feldman from Yarmouth, who ran 12:10 for 3200m on the track this spring.  This gives them 5 solid runners and puts them firmly in the mix for the Class A championship.

2026 Outlook:
Hampden Academy enters 2026 as one of the favorites in Class A after a strong showing last year that culminated in a third-place finish at states. Addison Elliott is a legitimate state championship contender and has established herself as one of the top runners in Maine. Behind Elliott, the Broncos have solid depth with Erin Curtis and Sylvia Ruge coming off of good freshman seasons.  With more contributing 9th graders on the way, Hampden has the talent to make a serious run at the state title.

2026 Outlook:
Portland High School comes into the 2026 season as the defending Class A state champs and could repeat. Nora Schmidt led the best freshmen group in the state last year and is the favorite to again win the individual title. Kate Morrison provides a strong second option, while Lucy Harkness and Mabel Peterson give Portland multiple weapons in their arsenal. The challenge for Portland will be maintaining the success and hunger that led to last year's state championship. If they can stay focused and keep their team intact, another title run is certainly within reach.

2026 Outlook:
Freeport is looking to repeat as Class B state champions after capturing the title last year. They do lose key components of that squad, but Ella Oshetski still gives the Falcons a strong frontrunner who can carry the team. Freeport may not have quite as much firepower as some of the teams ranked ahead of them, but their depth and championship experience make them a serious threat to repeat in Class B.

Sally Pierce showed potential during her freshman year and will look to take another step forward in 2026.  If the Stags can find a solid 5th runner, they could compete with the other top teams in the state.

2026 Outlook:
Camden Hills has one of the best packs in Class A North. The Windjammers may not have a dominant frontrunner, but they return seven runners within a 2 minutes spread. If one or two runners can break out toward the front, Camden Hills could be a very tough team in Class A North.. The Windjammers are built to score well at team competitions and have the talent to be competitive at the state level. If they can develop consistency across their lineup and keep everyone healthy, Camden Hills could surprise some people this season.

2026 Outlook:
John Bapst has a solid foundation with Emily Conlon leading the way as their top runner. She had a good run at the Beach to Beacon Mile and may be poised for a breakout season. Behind her is a solid group of other juniors. If John Bapst can find a fifth runner and tighten the gap behind its top three, this team could move well beyond last year’s 7th-place finish at the Class B State Championships. Next year, with the core as seniors, they could compete with the best teams in the state.

2026 Outlook:
Presque Isle looks to be much improved this year.  Aleah Rideout is a strong frontrunner who can carry the team on her shoulders. The Wildcats have decent depth with several runners capable of contributing at important races. Lillian Johnson is a potential impact freshman that could score highly, too. If Presque Isle can improve their consistency and develop their supporting cast, they have the potential to make a playoff push in Class B.

2026 Outlook:
Yarmouth has a well-balanced squad with no single standout runner, but rather a collection of solid performers across the board. The loss of Anelise Feldman hurts a bit, but they remain in the mix uin a tight Class B North.  The Clippers may need a runner to emerge closer to the front if they want to challenge the top Class B teams, but their depth and tight spread should make them a consistent team throughout the season.

Brunswick is a tough team to forecast as some of their top runners only run cross country part time.  Dinsmore is a top runner on the track but also plays soccer so was limited to only one race last year.  As such, they project to be led by Fiona Hallett, who is a capable #1. Phoebe Olcott had a good freshman year and should continue to improve. If this team runs to potential, they could compete for a Class A North title.

2026 Outlook:
Lincoln Academy has one of the best frontrunners in Class B with Karen Higgins returning after running 18:17. Higgins gives the Eagles a major low stick and should be in the mix near the front of the state meet. The question for Lincoln Academy will be depth behind her. Annabel Garvan-Soto gives them a strong second runner, but the Eagles will need Chloe Anderson and the rest of the varsity group to close the gap if they want to move up from last year’s 10th-place Class B state finish. If their 3-5 runners can make a jump, Lincoln Academy could be a dangerous team in Class B South.

Caribou returns a young and promising core after finishing 8th in Class B last fall. Emma Graves leads the way after running 19:43 as a freshman, and she has the potential to be one of the better runners in Class B North. Isabella Albert gives the Vikings another strong underclassman near the front, while Gloria Dionne brings senior experience. Caribou was already 3rd in the North Regional last year, and with their top two runners still very young, they should be right back in the mix near the top of Class B North. Their ceiling will depend on how much their 4-5 runners develop.

Cape Elizabeth loses some important pieces from a team that finished 5th in Class B last season, but the Capers still return enough talent to remain competitive. Anna Chang and Ella Fick give them a solid top two, and both should be capable of leading this team throughout the year. The key will be rebuilding the pack behind them. Ella Boyer and Vivienne Parsons provide experience, but Cape will need improvement from its returning runners or new contributors to match last year’s state meet success. Even with some questions, this is a program that usually develops well over the season.

Mt. Ararat has a strong returning group and could be a team to watch in Class A North. Charlotte Crowe and Mia Pierce are separated by just four seconds based on personal bests, giving the Eagles a reliable 1-2 punch up front. Ashlyn Thibeault adds another experienced runner under 22:00, and Celiah Godo gives them a fourth returner with varsity experience. Mt. Ararat did not qualify for the state meet last year, but they appear to have the pieces to make a push in 2026. If they can find a fifth runner and tighten their pack, the Eagles could climb in both the KVAC and Class A North.

Old Town returns a solid pack from a team that qualified for the Class B State Championships last fall. Elizabeth Preble gives the Coyotes a dependable leader, while Izzabella Howard, Linzy Heitmann, and Lily Heitmann all return with bests between 22:15 and 22:50. That kind of grouping should help Old Town in bigger meets, especially if the pack can move forward together. The Coyotes may not have the same low stick as some of the teams ranked ahead of them, but their depth gives them a good foundation. Continued improvement from their younger runners could help them move up in Class B North.

Van Der Meer had a good freshman season and will look to develop into another frontrunner for the Panthers.  If their pack of Lord and Liu can get down to the 22 minute range, this team could be quite good.

Waynflete finished as runners-up at the Class C state championship last year and will look to make another push for a title this year. The team loses many key seniors, but there is reason to believe they could still win this year. Paige Alexander is back after missing the postseason last year and could scores as little as one point for the Flyers. Incoming freshman Saoirse Lake will also make an immediate impact. This team will need to develop additional depth, but their elite runners give them an excellent chance.

South Portland has a group of returners with potential to make noise this season. Sophomore Mia Harp had a great freshman season and will look to develop into a true frontrunner this season.  The Red Riots have decent depth with seven runners returning under 25 minutes. If the team can develop consistency and run as a pack throughout the season, South Portland has the talent to improve on last year's finish.

2026 Outlook:
Kennebunk ran very well at the State Meet last year and will look to improve upon that result in 2026.  The team returns with a solid core featuring Mia Provencher as their top runner. Leblanc had a great freshman campaign and could push Provencher to be the team’s best runner this season.  If the team can find a solid 5th runner, they should advance to the state meet once again.
